CHINESE NEW YEAR CULTURAL NIGHT ‘08

AIMST University’s Business Club (ABC) organized its first ever Chinese New Year Cultural Night ’08 at the Student Centre in Semeling Campus.  The aim of this event was to promote cultural unity among the students of the University and to celebrate Chinese New Year.  The event was held on 28 February 2008 and the Guest of Honour was Y.B. Dato’ Hj. Arzmi Bin Haji Abd. Hamid.

Guests were welcomed by prancing lions and the event kicked off punctually at 7.00 p.m. with speeches by the Prof. Dr. Geoffrey H. Smith, the Vice-Chancellor of AIMST University followed by the speech from the Guest of Honour, Y.B.Dato’ Hj. Arzmi Bin Haji Abd. Hamid. With the beating of the drum by the Guest of Honour accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor, it signified the official opening ofAIMST University’s inaugural CNY Cultural Night ’08.  The audiences were later entertained by a Lion Dance and the Laughing Buddha.  The surprise came when the two prancing lions went among the audience to give away mandarin oranges. 

The audiences were further entertained by a series of cultural performances such as Chinese and English songs, Chinese orchestra, traditional dances, wushu and Tamil songs.  There was also the God of Prosperity to give away red packets or ang pows to the audience.  The highlight was the fashion show by students ofAIMST University showcasing exquisite ‘qipao’s sponsored by Beaufort Hair Saloon.  The organizing committee presented a Chinese New Year song to mark the closing of the event.  It was a successful event with the support from the sponsors, the Management and Staff of AIMST University and the students alike.
