FOUNDATION IN SCIENCE

PROGRAMME INTRODUCTION

The Foundation programme at AIMST University is tailored to provide a multitude of opportunities for you to pursue a career of your dreams. The programme equips the students with adequate academic knowledge and skills needed for success at AIMST and beyond. To ensure a high quality programme, the School has an advisory panel comprising of selected faculty members and external experts to assist in its curriculum development and the formal assessment of its courses. At AIMST, we acknowledge that the most able students are those who have developed a good command of the English language and communication. In recognition of this, we place emphasis on the use of English as the medium of instruction aiming to produce students who are fluent and confident. The Foundation programme has three annual intakes commencing in March, April and July. On successful completion of the foundation programme, you may choose from the following undergraduate courses depending on your academic performance and interest.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

Foundation in Science is a comprehensive 12-month programme comprising 3 semesters. Semester I, II and III each consist of 13 weeks of lectures and tutorials. Students who complete our programme are equipped with a solid fundamental knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology and English. Upon successful completion of the Foundation programme, students are eligible for entry into the various programmes of your interest.

  • Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biotechnology
  • Bachelor of Dental & Surgery (BDS)
  • Bachelor of Dental Technology (BDT)
  • Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Diploma in Nursing


Entry Requirement
Foundation in Science leading to MBBS, Dentistry and Pharmacy

Entry into MBBS, Dentistry & Pharmacy

  • 5B’s of SPM in Science subjects including Mathematics or Additional Mathematics
  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English


Entry Requirement
Foundation in Science leading to Physiotherapy, Biotechnology and Engineering

Entry into Physiotherapy, Biotechnology and Engineering

  • 5C’s in SPM including 2 Science subjects and Mathematics


COURSE ASSESSMENT
Assessment comprises two components:
Coursework          - 30%
Final Examination - 70%

The course work component comprises different assessments such as assignments, presentations, midterm tests, projects and laboratory work assigned throughout each semester. The final examination is conducted at the end of each semester.
