General Information About AIMST
Question: Who are we?
Answer: The AIMST University, founded on 15 March 2001, is a private university established by the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED), the educational arm of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component party of the Barisan Nasional Government in Malaysia. Located in the northern Malaysian state of Kedah Darul Aman, the university is the brainchild of YB Dato' Seri S.Samy Vellu, Minister of Works, and President of the MIC.
Question: Where are we located?
Answer:
Location of AIMST in Kedah - The permanent campus is in Semeling, which is about 20 kilometers from Alor Star, Kedah's state capital. Sungai Petani is situated at the crossroads between the capital Kuala Lumpur and the legendary islands of Langkawi. Many attractions can be found in and around Sungai Petani.

Is AIMST University a private university? Do you confer your own

degrees or conduct twinning programmes with some other universities?
Answer:

AIMST University is a private university established in 2001 and is registered under the Malaysian Private Educational Institutions Act 1996. Being a full fledged university, AIMST University awards its own degrees for all courses. Transfer of credits to certain premier Australian universities for validated courses is also possible, as is the case with La Trobe University for Engineering courses, Griffith University for IT/Comp. Science courses and Queensland University of Technology for Biotechnology.

Question: Are all the courses offered at AIMST University approved by the Malaysian Government?
Answer: Yes, all the courses offered at AIMST University are approved by LAN (National Accreditation Board , JPS (Dept. of Private Education in the Ministry of Education)
Question: What is the entrance criterion for students to enter AIMST University
  programmes?

Question: What programmes do you offer and what qualifications must I have?

Question: Can students use their SPM forecast/trial results to enter the
Foundation Programmes before they get their actual results?
Answer: Yes, they can use their SPM forecast/trial results to enter the January intake of the Foundation Programmes only.

Question: Are there any part-time undergraduate courses at AIMST University?
Answer: Not at the moment.

Accommodation
Question: Does AIMST University provide hostel accommodation for students? If yes, what are the charges?
Answer: Yes, AIMST University does provide hostel accommodation for local as well as international students at rented premises in residential area close to the Amanjaya Campus. The cost is RM450 per month and this is inclusive of food (3 meals a day) and transport.
                 
Question: Can the students cook in their hostels?
Answer: No. Food will only be served at the AIMST University Cafeteria.

International Students
Question: What is the procedure for an international student to enroll in
AIMST University?
Answer: The application details are available from the website (please click here to download the application form). The International Student Office will process the application and send the details to the Immigration Department to obtain  the Student Pass. (This process will take about 3 weeks, so all applications must be received at least 4 weeks preceding the intake date.)
 
Question: Can AIMST University provide airport pick-up service for international
students?
Answer: Yes, provided students send their flight details to the International Student office early. They will be met on arrival at the airport and accompanied to the campus by an AIMST University representative.
Question: Is it possible for international students to work on a part-time
basis in Malaysia?
Answer: Yes, students are allowed to work during their holidays as per Ministry of Education Guidelines. However, AIMST University can also make arrangements for part-time work within the campus at other times.
