PROGRAMME INTRODUCTION

This is a 6 months course designed to prepare Registered Nurses with advanced nursing knowledge and evidence-based clinical skills to competently provide high quality holistic care to patients with critical conditions.

EDUCATION OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

At the end of this course, the students will:

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge and competent practical skill in critical care areas in line with current global health care needs.
  • Reflect on professional expertise, clinical judgment and ethical decision-making skills used in the collaborative provision of healthcare in the critical care setting.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skill and leadership style by establishing good teamwork practice with patient, family and healthcare providers.
  • Engage in life-long learning practices that encourage ongoing personal professional development and update the newest nursing knowledge.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course is consisting of 7 modules equivalent to 25 credit hours. It covers:

Applied Pharmacology in Critical Care
Fundamental Aspects in Critical Care
Respiratory Alterations
Cardiovascular Alterations
Neuromuscular Alterations
Renal and Metabolic Alterations
Clinical Practice
Clinical Placement will be in government hospital*

COURSE STRUCTURE

This course consists of 2 semesters with duration of 26 weeks

Semester 1

Week 1
Orientation (1 week)

Week 2 - 8
Theory/ Continuous Assessment (7 weeks)

Week 9 - 12
Clinical Practice I (4 weeks)

Week 13
Summative Assessment (1 week)

Semester 2

Week 14 - 18
Theory/ Cont. Assessment (5 weeks)

Week 19 – 24
Clinical Practical II (6 weeks)

Week 25
Summative Assessment (1 week)

Week 26
Semester Break (1 week)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A Registered Nurse with the Malaysian Nursing Board or its equivalent
Process current Annual Practicing Certificate / Retention in register
Minimum of 2 years clinical working experience
Minimum of 3 months working experience in the related speciality
